Tu B’Av the 15th Day of Av
Day of Love in Judaism
Tu B’Av is considered one of the most joyous ancient festivals! Women would dress in white and dance in the fields; it was a day of matchmaking or often described as a biblical Sadie Hawkins dance, in which women cast off traditional gender roles and picked their own dancing partners. Some sources reveal that all the women wore white so that the men could not tell who was rich and who was poor.
In modern day Israel, it is customary to send a bouquet of red roses to the one you love on Tu B’Av. In addition, romantic songs are played on the radio, parties are held in the evening, and it is a popular date to hold weddings.
Holiday Tradition is to wear white, feel free to be traditional!
