- Slovenia and Estonia have announced new restrictions on ritual slaughter that will impact both Jewish and Muslim communities. They are not the first European countries to do so: The Dutch lower house had passed a ban on all ritual slaughter that was later scrapped by the Dutch Senate. The Dutch government is now pursuing regulation of ritual slaughter within the country. However, ritual slaughter is expected to come under further attack as countries alter laws to become compliant with European Regulation 1099, enacted by the EU to introduce regulations limiting the suffering of animals at the time of slaughter.
