Lots of Israeli Film Screenings This Week

Foreign film connoisseurs can get their fill of Israeli culture this week with FOUR separate Israeli film screenings in the DC and Maryland area.

77 Steps is Ibtisam Mara’ana’s autobiographical tale of leaving her Israeli Arab village to make a life for herself in Tel Aviv. It details her relationship with her Jewish-Canadian neighbor-turned-boyfriend, and the challenges of cross-cultural interactions against the backdrop of the 2009 Gaza war.  The filmmaker will speak at a post-show discussion.  This event is sponsored by the Greater Washington Forum on Israeli Arab Issues.

Intimate Grammar tells the story of the Israeli child of Holocaust survivors, struggling to find beauty . This event is affiliated with DC’s Jewish Literary Festival and is co-sponsored by American University‘s Center for Israel Studies.
