The Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra is hosting a major concert in honor of American tenor Richard Tucker. Tucker was part of a generation of Jewish opera singers to receive their training in cantorial school. The concert, conducted by the world-renowned Zubin Mehta, will feature soprana Renée Fleming and tenor Joseph Calleja.
DC-area residents can take part of this one-time experience by watching the cinecast on Thursday, July 28, at 7:00 p.m. at a number of local theaters. In addition to the concert, the telecast will also include a special intermission feature about Richard Tucker with commentary by Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Zubin Mehta and others.
