DC Rabbi Shmuel Herzfeld made sure all Jews could participate in a special DC election, after he sued the city’s election board for scheduling an election of an at-large DC council member and two State Board of Education members on the last day of Passover. Since observant Jews would not have been able to vote in the Tuesday election, a federal judge ruled that ballot boxes be for early voting on Easter Sunday to accommodate them. Herzfeld, leader of the Ohev Sholom Synagogue, arranged a bus to take voters to the Judiciary Square polling station.

I’m sorry. This is so stupid. I heard the city was willing to make many accommodations including sending people to shuls to collect the ballots. DC was going to remedy the oversight, but b/c this schmendrick decided to sue, the city took all these accommodations off the table leading to people having to rush to the polls right immediately after Yom Tov.
