First, I’d like to say that it’s tough to be witty on cue, and also that the master Jew of DC, your own Mr. Stephen Richer, promised me an in person interview that never happened! So here goes nothing…

SR: Ahem.  Please see the last few questions.  Besides, there’s only so much time I can take with you…  Every Friday night is enough…

Jewish superhero at night… what do you do during the day?
During the day I work as Public Health Analyst with the HIV/AIDS Bureau in the Health Resources and Services Administration (a division of Health and Human Services). Work is located in Rockville, Maryland in the “beautiful” Parklawn building which must have been built by an architect from Communist era Russia. I’m now looking into where I’m headed next for my PhD. In my spare time, I work on my gchat proficiency, am attached to my blackberry, enjoy attending Nationals games, water sports, fishing, and napping

Who is the greatest Jew born after 1900?
I don’t know if I can pick one Jew, so I will have to address several…

Greatest Jew post 1900 is definitely Superman. I mean, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Faster than a speeding bullet, etc? Can’t top that, although Sandy Koufax and Albert Einstein come close.

Now, I also need to add the obligatory family members (which my Jewish guilt would never let me pick just one of), who are all great including my awesome parents, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins. My brother in law is a Patriots fan, so he’s excluded from this list. Also upon proofing this, my amazing girlfriend mentioned she was left out, she’s obviously #1 in my book!

My grandmother Faye, who passed away almost 10 years ago, gets a special mention because her Jewish cooking skills were unmatched. Brisket, corned beef, kugel, matzo ball soup, you name it, she would nail it

A lot of people ask what it takes to be a JGOTW. How would you answer them?
I assume my charm, wit, and good looks had something to do with it.  Not to mention my complete lack of an ego.  Additionally, bugging my coworker Sara Glickman and the rest of the GTJ staff all the time may have helped.

Bonus Round: Stephen’s Rapid Fire Questions:

When you need to get ready to dominate, what song do you listen to?  YouTube clip please?
I usually just spend some time before going out perusing hypem.com for new tunes.  However, Edward Maya–“This is my life” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYPCSLX_Orw) is a pretty standard fall back.

If you could have invented one Plague to add…  Plague 11…  What would it have been?
Bieber fever.

What’s your favorite Shabbat service in DC?
That’s like picking your favorite child, impossible! I’ve been a fan of Adas Shir delight lately, as the Rabbi, services, food, and crowd are all great. However, I’ve made some great friends at 6th in the city, Mesorah, and Chabad. The scope of Shabbat services in D.C. is quite amazing .

Aliens descend on earth (it happens).  They want to know about Judaism.  You get to give them one food, one book, and one person to create a picture of Judaism…. they are:
Food: Bagels with a schmear
Book: The torah, obviously
Person: Julia Moss  (SR: agreed!)
In addition, I don’t think an alien could learn about Judaism without experiencing Fiddler on the Roof, whether in play or movie form.

What city should Gather the Jews expand to next?
My hometown of Miami, obviously.  We could use a good source of Jew-vents.

When the Jews wandered the desert for 40 years, they ate manna from heaven.  The manna tasted like whatever they wanted.  What would your manna be?
Definitely some sort of falafel/schwarma combination

Who will the NBA Finals?  (Answer cannot start with an “M” and end with a “iami Heat.”)
El calor.  I can’t go against the Heat!  (SR:  Booo!  He got around my question.)

Chag pesach sameach!
