Ari on why he should be Jewish Guy of the Year:
I should be the Jewish Guy of the Year because it’s all I’ve ever wanted. My parents put me on this earth to be just this person and I will not deny them.
Who’s the greatest Jew born after 1900?
To me, that’s a no brainer. Robert Allen Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan. Hands down one of the best singer-songwriters in the history of the world and a Jew to boot. The man is a wonderful lyricist and really plays a mean acoustic guitar and harmonica. Name me a better Jew born after 1900. Go on. Try.
Do you have a theme song?
My theme song would have to be “There’s Always Someone Cooler Than You” by Ben Folds. I think it’s taught me not to take myself too seriously and to remember that there is indeed someone else in this world who is cooler than yours truly. The song helps to keep me humble on those days where I simply think I can’t do any wrong.
Which is best for going out? DuPont, Adams Morgan, Chinatown, Capitol Hill, Foggy Bottom, or Arlington?
Adams Morgan on weeknights. Close to my apartment and just has the right vibe on a weeknight. Wednesdays take the cake with half priced grilled cheese and $3 Sierra Nevadas at Toledo Lounge before bluegrass night at Madam’s Organ. Now that’s a fun night.
What is the best upcoming Jewish event in Washington, D.C.?
Any Moishe House DC Friday night dinner. Just a super welcoming group of folks who have been a joy to get to know. Food tastes great, the wine is flowing, and it’s nice to hang out with a bunch of similar-minded Jews. Definitely one of my favorite ways to spend a Friday night in this city.
If you could live the life of any movie character, which character would you choose?
Peter Pan, more specifically, Robin Williams from “Hook”. Probably the best movie ever created. And it’s always been my dream to fly, play with the lost boys, and battle Hook to the death. So definitely Peter Pan.
